June 4th Wear Red for Pentecost – On the first Pentecost, people from many parts of the ancient world gathered in Jerusalem and witnessed the amazing outpouring of God’s Spirit.  The festival of Pentecost is an occasion for celebration as the Season of Easter draws to a close.  The colour associated with Pentecost is red. It reminds us of the tongues of flame that appeared over the Apostles’ heads recorded in Acts 2:1-21.  On June 4th  everyone is encouraged to mark the occasion by wearing something red – a tie, sweater, scarf, etc. – or other fire-related colours such as bright orange and yellow.

The Tuesday Morning Ladies Group would like to thank all those who donated plants and books to the sale last weekend. The plants earned $900 and the books $475. Left over plants were gratefully accepted by Mission Thrift Store. Some leftover books were donated to the men’s and ladies homeless shelters.

A big thank you is extended to everyone who helped with the VBS Bake sale on Saturday, May 27th, by donating baked goods, purchasing baked goods, donating funds or helping to run the event. With your support, we raised over $250 for our VBS program. Thank you very much.

Camp Out VBS – registration is open!

Do you know someone in our congregation graduating from high school, college, university or other institutions, please contact the church office so that they can be recognized in the next issue of The Link.  Youth and Graduate Sunday will be celebrated June 25.

Crisis in South Sudan PWS&D appeal – Responding through Canadian Foodgrains Bank, PWS&D will be providing nutrition support to those affected by famine conditions in South Sudan. Nutrition feeding centres will be established, where children under five and lactating mothers can be screened for malnutrition. If a child is found with severe acute malnutrition—meaning they are so malnourished they are close to death—they will receive treatment with therapeutic foods. Lactating mothers and children with moderate acute malnutrition will also be treated, and caregivers will receive education in proper hygiene and child feeding practices. The project will benefit 42,000 people. With support from the Government of Canada through Canadian Foodgrains Bank, donations to this project are matched 4:1. That means that for every $1 you contribute, $5 of programming can take place.” Mark donations through Saint Andrew’s Church “South Sudan”.  For more information visit the website http://presbyterian.ca/pwsd/2017/03/13/crisis-in-south-sudan/
